Gavin Knight is the oldest of three, and he's like the role model for his sisters. At least he was trying to be whine he was younger. Gav grew up in a pretty decent household. They weren't too reach, and they weren't too poor either. The family of five was able to live comfortable. His parents always instilled in him and his sister that they should have a work ethic because no one would respect you if you didn't, and Gavin really clung to that since he was the oldest. Simply because he watched his father provide and work for his family. He owned a pretty well decent known mechanic shopped called Knight's Auto Repair. It was a place that Gavin wanted to be, but at the same time he wanted to be able to fit in with the other kids in school.
In school he went through that phase of wanted to fit in with other kids. He wanted to do what they did because it just seemed cool at the time, and for a while he was doing that. Gavin wasn't doing his homework for school. He was being lazy around the house which kind of was uncharacteristic for Gavin at the time, but his parents was just hoping that he would get over the phase quickly. Unfortunately that didn't happen because of the crowd of boys that he was always seen with was always pulling him into bad situations. Sticky fingers gavin was what his friends called him. He could get his hands on anything, and quickly get away with it. There's only so many times you're going to get caught doing something before it catches up with you and in the pit of his stomach he knew he should have turned back but he had something to prove.
There was a local grocery that was nearby, and they had been keeping an out for the boys because they had been talk among the other store owners of a group of boys that was going through stores raiding them and walking out with their merchandise. So they were on alert. Gavin had been putting one too many things in his bag before they let him walk out the store to only have the police waiting for him, and his friends no where to be found. It kind of put things in perspective for him. You can't trust everyone. They don't all have the best interest at heart. This was also another reason why he got into cars so heavily. As punishment, his father wanted him to work in the mechanic shop to keep him out of trouble. Gavin was honestly pissed about it because outside of school he no longer had a life. He went straight from school to his father's shop to work with him and learn about the cars. In time it kind of grew on him, and he thanks his father for it because otherwise he wouldn't be sure where he would be without his father's guidance.
don't say you love me
Being a 25-year-old divorced man is definitely something you don't hear very often. Especially from a man of his caliber. He had never been the one to settle down. He had always been the type to move from relationship to relationship because he had gotten bored with someone or they just didn't fit the mold anymore. He never wanted to settle down because it came with too many strings attached. Gavin had been seeing this guy, Paris Ortega, who was a friend of his too, and one night one thing led to another, and he found himself waking up next to him the next morning. It was odd because he had never truly identified himself as homosexual or bisexual. He had only dated women exclusively. It scared him, but he ignored it. He was to be happy, and he found that this was actually the one that was making him at least want to try a relationship.
King Carter was his best friend before anything. Outside of the time that he spent with his family and his other friends, he spent most of it with King. He was his best friend. Someone that he could just hang around with and goof off whenever he had a long night. They were having a conversation over something silly like the fact that King couldn't cook macaroni and cheese, and he just started flirting with him. It wasn't like it was forced, and it came naturally. that's what surprised him the most with how easily they could transition from just being friends to something more. Gavin definitely had put his all into the relationship, but they didn't fall short of their ups and downs. After King had proposed to Gavin at his parent's Christmas dinner, Gavin knew that he wanted to spend his life with this man. That was when the problems really started to arise. Gavin had a very crazy and territorial ex that wanted him back. Gav tried to make sure he shook her every time that she came through to see him. Always assuming that him dating King was just a phase. That he truly wasn't into men. She was trying to force her own beliefs onto him. Ther were many times she was constantly trying to sabotage their relationship. Most times it worked, and other times it didn't. There were times when King was really questioning whether or not they would actually get married, and soon Gavin himself was starting to believe it. Maybe this was God telling them that they weren't actually meant to be.
It wasn't until one night that his ex-girlfriend had broken into his place, that he knew that he had to fix it. Gavin had just gotten out the shower, and he had heard some commotion. He just assumed that it was King considering he had given him a key, and when he noticed it that it wasn't he tried his best to get her out without putting his hands on her. He knew how she was, and he knew that she would probably scream abuse of some kind. Afterall, he had dated her so he knew what she was about. She was pulling down his towel just when King stepped through the door. It was bad timing, and in the back of his mind, he knew that she had planned this all along. She wanted King to think that they were about to sleep together, but that wasn't the case. Gavin didn't have a chose then, but to go down to the police station and have a restraining order put out on her. He didn't want to go that route, but it was clear that she wasn't going to leave him be.
He knew now that they would be alright. Being in a good headspace was never in the cards for them, but at least they were able to finally get married. The two took a quick trip down to Las Vegas and decided to elope with one another. Of course, Gavin wanted an actual wedding, and his parents were furious with him for going and just getting married but they understood. They were happy and in love at least so he thought. After they had gotten married, Gavin wanted to bring a little more money into the house and he was good at cars. He ended up joining a group of people who dealt with cars in a sense, and he had to keep it secret. Which meant he had late nights being away from the house, and it often caused rifts between him and King when he was coming home so late. Not being able to explain made King think that he was cheating on him. He wasn't, and he couldn't do the love of his life that way. Not at this point in their marriage. King left one night when they had gotten into an argument, and Gavin had left the house also to get something off his mind. He went street racing, and that was the night he thought he would have lost everything. He crashed right into King that night and it landed his husband in the hospital in a coma for a while. It brought his heart to know that his husband was lying there because of him. After that night, Gavin quit. Knowing what he had done, he couldn't have continued to do that with a good conscience.
Once King had woken up from the coma, they started to work on them and building that trust again, and being naive Gavin thought that it would stay that way. It didn't, so he was devasted when he woke up one morning with King and all his things gone and divorce papers lying there on the bed next to him and a note saying that he was leaving. There was no explanation, nothing, and it broke his heart. He never thought that King would do this to him, but you can't always expecting great things from people all the time.
since you've been gone
Reluctantly Gavin signed those papers, and maybe this was going to be a good thing for him. maybe he was just too young to be married. Maybe happiness just wasn't in the cards for him. Maybe he wasn't going to get his happy ending, and honestly, at this point, he doesn't believe that he actually will. He's kind of bitter towards the love aspect and isn't looking. Maybe it's just him going back to who he was, or maybe he's trying to heal a broken heart in the wrong way.
They say talking helps, but he's never gone through that. He just blocked out the pain and replaced it with sex and alcohol. What better way to actually heal yourself then with those two subjects. In reality, he's been distracting himself with work, and he's hoping that at some point he finds himself in a place where he can find love again. He doesn't want to be bitter for the rest of his time on earth, but his past relationship is making it hard not to.
